"The Tale Of Thisbe An Extraordinary Cat" by Terri Cabral is an enchanting story about a spunky little cat named Thisbe. She is adopted by Ana, an aspiring actress. Thisbe is excited about a new adventure but is anxious about leaving her Mama. She leaves the warmth of her Mama in the arms of Ana and begins her adventure. Ana brings Thisbe to her apartment where Thisbe meets the local ledge-sitting pigeons outside her window, a friendly neighbor dog from upstairs and the love of her life, Ana's friend's cat, Thomas. All is well for a while until Ana has to leave and takes on a new job in a touring company. She brings the reluctant cat to her Aunt Belinda's house in the country. Although Thisbe is unenthusiastic about the move to a new home without Ana, she quickly becomes fond of Belinda. She also finds she has much more freedom in the country. She is allowed to venture outside without the confines of a leash and is free to roam about her spacious yard. The outdoors is not without its perils. There is the neighborhood dog, who likes to chase the new cat and there is the local hawk who finds small cats a tasty lunch for her brood in the nest. But the intrepid Thisbe solves her dilemmas with kindness. As she was taught by her Mama, "Be nice to others and they will be nice to you", Thisbe implements the instructions and becomes friends with the many animals that inhabit her yard and surrounding areas. Her best friend is a tiny Chickadee who tumbled from her nest and landed in front of Thisbe's nose. Thisbe learns many other lessons in the story -- love, loss, acceptance of others, an ecology lesson and some information about where deceased animals and people go. A resident spirit, Belinda's deceased husband, has stayed around the house to watch his beloved wife. He has the ability to speak with Thisbe and she with him. They have some wonderful conversations. Situations occur in the life of Thisbe that makes her sad and after eight years of living with Belinda she is tired of the place and lonely for Ana (who has visited with them from time to time when she has been home from the tour).
