I grew up in Rye, New York and was graduated from Smith College where I was assistant managing editor of the newspaper, then called SCAN. After graduation I worked as a reporter for a newspaper, the Port Chester Daily Item and later was a member of the editorial staff of Publishers' Weekly. I was married to E. Leroy Tolles, founding partner of the law firm, Munger, Tolles and Olson. He passed away recently. We had six children, five boys and a girl which led to my first book, TOO MANY BOYS,(Thos. Nelson) later retitled KATIE AND THOSE BOY when Scholastic published it in paperback. I followed it with KATIE FOR PRESIDENT, KATIE'S BABYSITTING JOB, WHO'S READING DARCI'S DIARY( LODESTAR/DUTTON}, DARCI AND THE DANCE CONTEST(LODESTAR/DUTTON), DARCI IN CABIN 13, SECRET SISTER AND MARRYING OFF MOM. all published in paperback by Scholastic. Total sales reached about 2.3 million copies. Two titles were selected for the IRA children's choices list. In addition I have sold over thirty short stories. Fifteen of them were published on the L. A. Times children's page and three of those were published in paperback by Dominie/Pearson. Their titles are POCKETS FULL OF GOLD, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DOG AND WHEN RUDY CROWS.
