Dr. James, R. Fisher Jr., Ph.D.
Dr. Fisher was born during the Great Depression in Clinton, Iowa. He attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and attended Clinton High School, where he had major letters in several sports.
He graduated in the top 10 percent of his high school class, attended the University of Iowa, and received the Freshman Athletic Trophy for top grade point as a chemistry major.
While at Iowa, he was Phi Eta Sigma, Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Beta Kappa keys, and graduated cum laude. After college, he was a chemist with Standard Brands, Inc. followed by work with Nalco Chemical Company, as a chemical sales engineer, field manager, and corporate executive.
He retired in his mid-thirties, and wrote Confident Selling (1970); went back to school to attain an MA in social psychology at the University of South Florida, graduated Phi Kappa Phi and magna cum laude, and then earned a Ph.D. in organization/industrial psychology from Walden University.
He joined Honeywell Avionics, Inc. in 1980 as an organizational development (OD) psychologist and was promoted to director of human resources for planning & development for Honeywell Europe, Ltd. in 1984, ending his career with Honeywell in 1990.
Work Without Managers (1991) followed. Confident Selling for the 90s (1992) was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in nonfiction. The Worker, Alone! (1995), The Taboo (1996), Six Silent Killers (1998) and Corporate Sin (2000) followed dealing with the changing workforce.
In the Shadow of the Courthouse (2003), the novel being submitted for consideration, was chosen by former Senator John Edwards to be included in his book, Home: The Blueprint of Our Lives (2006) in which there is a picture of Dr. Fisher’s home and the Clinton County Courthouse in a four page spread.
A Look Back to See Ahead was published in 2007. He is now working on a novel of South Africa during the period of apartheid. He was an executive with Nalco Chemical Company there in 1968 facilitating the formation of a new company.
