Study on the brief and convulsive days of the presidency of Juan Bosch in 1963 amidst the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union and worries of the spread of communism that led to his eventual overthrow seven months after he was democratically elected. Juan Bosch (1909-2001) was one of the fundamental Dominican literary and political figures of the 20th century. Bosch, the first democratically elected President in the Dominican Republic after the assassination of former dictator Rafael L. Trujillo was overthrown in a coup in 1963. In 1965 a popular revolution surfaced to demand the return of Bosch to the Presidency. Eliades Acosta Matos, former Director of the Cuban National Library, is a historian, philosopher, essayist and novelist, currently associated with the Dominican Republic National Archive. He is the author of several books including 1963, revolución inconclusa (2013), La telearaña cubana de Trujillo (2012) and the historical novels Cartas auténticas que nunca se escribieron (2005) and Hotel Tampa Bay (2007), among others.
