Pref. 3rd edition states that this collection was first published 1815 for the use of Paradise street chapel, Liverpool. I+t was compiled by a committee appointed for the purpose consisting of the Rev. John Yates, Rev. Pendlebury Houghton (ministers of the congregation) Dr. John Bostock and two other lay gentlemen. It was adopted by the Congregation of English Presbyterians, assembling in Little Carter-lane, Doctors' Commons, London.

Preface signed by James Yates, who is the son of John Yates mentioned above.
