The book -- Celia Sanchez: The Legend of Cuba's Revolutionary Heart -- was written by Rich Haney and published in 2005 by Algora of NYC. The book remains one of the publishers' best selling and most detailed books (check Algora's website). Rich Haney finished his research on the book with a legal visit (via permission from the U. S. government) to Cuba in 2004 that resulted in a meeting with Fidel Castro (who was interested in the 17 letters his revolutionary idol Celia Sanchez wrote to her American friend Nora Peters from 1953 to 1979), letters the elderly black lady Nora Peters left with Mr. Haney, triggering his obsession with Celia Sanchez and Cuba. Mr. Haney upon his return to the U. S. continued to receive invaluable e-mail contributions from the famed journalist/author/revolutionary Marta Rojas, the quintessential Cuban insider and an intimate of Sanchez and Castro. Mr. Haney is finishing a second biography of Celia Sanchez as mentioned and previewed on the website http://cubaninsider.blogspot.com. The Denver Post chose Mr. Haney's 2000 biography of Sacajawea as the best of the many biographies devoted to the most memorialized American and Indian female. He also wrote historical Westerns Rosebud and Fawn as well as one Civil War historic novel entitled Chattahoochee.
The biography of Celia Sanchez is the best portrait of the remarkable person that Cuban insiders such as Fidel Castro, Marta Rojas, Roberto Salas, etc., consider the most important individual in the Cuban Revolution.
The book details how and why women such as Celia Sanchez, Haydee Santamaria, Vilma Espin, Tete Puebla, etc., were at the forefront of the Cuban Revolution and Revolutionary Cuba.
The book takes you from Cuba to Miami to Fort Benning (Georgia) to Venequela, etc.
From May 9, 1920 (the birth of Celia Sanchez) to her modern-day legacy.
