Sander Matalon loves his children -- 18-year-old Noam and 13-year-old Andi -- dearly, though the Harvard-bound Noam is unquestionably his favorite. And as Sander struggles in his career as a violinist, Noam is eager to start the next phase of his life. Then, driving home from a New Year's Eve party in his father's car Noam strikes a jogger, who dies instantly. Noam tries to keep it a secret, but Sander soon discovers what happened. Sander vows to protect his son, but he cannot imagine what that will cost him. As the police gather clues, Sander struggles to conceal the family's involvement in the jogger's death -- even as his guilt-inspired visits to the dead man's widow awaken emotions that will make matters much worse.
