SACRIFICE (Introductory and Primitive).-Sacrifice (Lat. sacrificium; sacer, 'holy,' and facere, 'to make') may be defined generally as a rite in the course of which something is forfeited or destroyed, its object being to establish relations between a source of spiritual strength and one in need of such strength, for the benefit of the latter.
