The paintings of brothers Bram and Geer van Velde centre around one theme: how to depict change. Their mutual friend, the writer Samuel Beckett, emphasized this. Expressed in other words: how change is brought about. Bram and his younger brother Geer, two years his junior, started out as painters and decorators in The Hague. They developed their artistic talents later in Paris. Bram takes the path of spontaneous expression with vibrant colours, while Geer concentrates on light and space. This search for the essence of modern art lies at the heart of this book. Exhibition: Museum Belvédère, Heerenveen (12.11.2010-13.2.2011).
