The focus of New Horizons is on communication in everyday situations. That's why we try to build up a useful vocabulary within a systematic presentation of grammar. Each unit of study has a unifying theme, and the language itself is contemporary, relevant English—English students can and will use outside the classroom.
We believe it is essential that students take an active part in the learning. A unique step in the learning process is simultaneous pairwork which gives each student many opportunities for individual practice, and encourages student interaction and teamwork. We also believe it is essential that students (and teachers) have fun in the classroom. That's why we try to present a wide variety of activities to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing skills—activities that teachers and students can enjoy and extend according to their individual interests and needs. We think it is important that students say what they want to say in English—that they move beyond the book and give and receive information freely, express their own ideas, opinions and feelings, and evaluate their own progress continuously. We want each student to feel a real sense of achievement and self-esteem as mastery grows.
