In de lente van 1943 wanneer Adolf Eichmann werd gevraagd hoe hij het moorden van 6 miljoen Joden kon uitleggen aan de publieke opinie was zijn antwoord simpelweg "wanneer er duizenden mensen sterven is dat een catastrofe, wanneer er miljoenen sterven is dat een statistiek". De moord op 6 miljoen Joden moet nooit gereduceerd worden tot een statistiek. We moeten niet enkel de doden herinneren maar we moeten ook vertellen wat er met hen gebeurde, en waarom het gebeurde. Alleen op die manier kunnen we hopen dat zulke rampen zich nooit meer voordoen. Dit verhaal dient als een herinnering een les en een voor behoede.
