Unique copy.

Wholly engraved.

Plates produced through Blake's own process of relief etching in 1789. Printed in 1789. "This is probably the first copy of Songs of Innocence Blake printed."-- The William Blake archive. Acquired by Robert Balmanno, who probably had it bound ca. 1818 with "A descriptive catalogue of pictures ... painted by William Blake (1809) and Chaucer's Prologue ( 1812). Disbound, with binding preserved. For complete provenance, see Bentley (p. 411), The William Blake archive.

Watermark: J. Whatman; printed in black ink; uncolored; no etched numbers, no penned numbers.
