Irving's article, orginally contributed to "The Gift: a Christmas and New Year's present for 1836", gives the general plan of a dramatic poem, projected but not written by Byron. It was based on a Spanish play, perhaps by Calderon, but not identified, and is supposed to be the source of Poe's "William Wilson".
