Title extracted from introductory prohemye (lines 25-31) on a1r.

Name of printer given at end of introductory prohemye on a1v. Place and date supplied from ISTC. On the dating, see BM 15th cent.

Based on Caxton's second edition of [1483] although the "proem is somewhat confusedly adapted from Caxton's, with numerous alterations of orthography, rewordings, transpositions, and omissions"; it is inferred that Pynson printed his edition from a copy of Caxton's second, "in which certain readings had been introduced from an unknown manuscript"--BM 15th cent.

With woodcut illustrations throughout: 21 different woodcuts with 26 repeats, based on those in Caxton's second edition.

Signatures: a-v́ı 2a-ḱı 2ĺœ A-Íı Ḱœ (K6 is blank).

Initial spaces with guide letters.

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy bound by the Leighton firm in modern brown morocco panelled and tooled in blind. The spine is tooled in blind and stamped in gilt. All text block edges are gilt. Leaves a1, a2, and I8 are supplied in facsimile. Leaves a8, d1, t4, F3, F6, and I8 have been supplied from another copy or copies. K6 (blank) is wanting. Early marginalia, in various hands, is present throughout.
