Begun in 1806, the "édition stéréotype" of Rousseau's works was to have consisted of 45 volumes, but only Émile (3 vols.), La nouvelle Héloïse (4 vols.) and the Confessions (4 vols.) were published. Cf. J.M. Quérard. La France littéraire.
