Edition Notes

Translation of: Ispovedʹ.
A photocopy made from the annotated translation of Paulette Brupbacher published in 1932 by Rieder in Paris. Omitted are the 1st 52 pages, containing t.p., preliminaries, and introduction, and p. [293]-335, containing the annotations. Serving as t.p. in this photocopy is the section title on p. [53], modified by the addition in typescript of the author's name and the supposed date of the confession. In fact the confession is signed at its end (p. 283) but is undated; it was written in the month prior to its delivery to Nicholas I on Aug. 13, 1851. The date 1857, seen on the last page of the photocopied text and transferred to the photocopy t.p., is the date of Bakunin's appeal (Feb. 14, 1857) from his imprisonment made to Alexander II, the text of which occupies p. 285-292.
